Kenya Healthcare Federation hosted the KHF CEOs’ Forum at Mövenpick Hotel & Residences Nairobi. The CEOs forum brings together thought leaders from the entire health sector spectrum drawn from KHF Membership and beyond to discuss emerging issues and to network in order to map out new opportunities for collaboration.
In her opening remarks, Dr. Anastasia Nyalita, CEO, Kenya Healthcare Federation noted that the breakfast meeting hosted in partnership with IQVIA and Fortinet was with an aim of focusing on the Kenya’s Data Protection Act, No 24. of 2019. Dr. Nyalita also invited Flora Mutahi, Chairperson, Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA) to share her remarks on the Private Sector Engagement Framework and a brief on KEPSA as the apex organization of the Private Sector in Kenya.
Carolyne Ndolo, General Manager, Eastern Africa and Meshack Ndolo, Key Account Manager PH East Africa, IQVIA made a spotlight session highlighting IQVIA as a global leader in providing Healthcare Consulting, Research, Technology & Data Analytics for over 65 years in the Healthcare Space. IQVIA addresses the healthcare sector challenges through patient-level consulting which allows users to understand costs of treating patients on daily basis, by analysing cost of the actual activities, for better resource allocation.
Rose Mosero, Deputy Data Commissioner, Office of the Data Protection Commissioner highlighted on the mandate of registration of Data Controllers and Data Processors in accordance with the Kenya’s Data Protection Act, No 24. of 2019. She highlighted on the various compliance highlights, rights of the Data Subjects and the consequences for non-compliance. Chief Guest, Dr. Joseph Sitienei, Head of the Directorate of Health Policy, M&E, Health informatics and Research, Ministry of Health, Kenya later on shared the Health Sector perspective on the Data Protection Act. He emphasized that Health Data is sensitive data and has evolved over time to the point where Digital Health has taken center stage and the Kenya Data Governance Framework will provide guidance that will ensure health data is managed as sensitive data but at the same time optimize its use for clinical care, relevant policy making and innovation.
Nicanory Ateya, Systems Engineer East Africa, Fortinet made a spotlight session highlighting Healthcare Cybersecurity – Enabling the Latest Advances in Patient Care While Protecting Against Cyberattacks. He shared on Healthcare Cybersecurity Landscape, Compliance Requirements and Business Impact of Breaches for Healthcare. Fortinet Security Fabric provides a broad, integrated and automates solution with AI-driven security for fast and efficient operations. This is achieved through a security driven network which builds, secures and manages user devices and applications. Dr Elizabeth Wala, Vice Chair, Kenya Healthcare Federation later on gave her closing remarks and a vote of thanks to the sponsors; IQVIA and Fortinet, KHF Members and other stakeholders who arrived at the CEOs’ Forum and made it a success.
As a follow up for the CEOs’ Forum, Kenya Healthcare Federation hosted the Digital Health Forum at Mövenpick Hotel & Residences Nairobi. This was an initiative of the KHF’s Digital Health Committee aimed to bring together leadership from Digital Health Ecosystem to discuss areas affecting the Healthcare Space. In her opening remarks, Dr. Jean Kyula, Vice Chair, Digital Health Committee welcomes all the committee members noting that the meeting hosted in partnership with Fortinet was with an aim of focusing on discussing the Three Thematic areas affecting Health Information Systems and on the Ministry of Health Data Integration & DHIS 2.
Dr. Kyula also invited Dr. Wesley Oghera, Head, Health Informatics, Ministry of Health, Kenya to share his remarks on the Ministry of Health Data Integration & DHIS2. He stated the DHIS2’s vision will capture all health data in all service delivery levels, providing patient-level data and service statistics reports available at all service delivery points and facilities. It will also be integrated with other state & non-state databases and Health Information Systems such as NHIF, KEMSA, EHRs in all Hospitals among other regulatory bodies and stakeholders while also providing linkages for Telemedicine. Thus providing real time Data collection, customer/client interaction through portal.health.go.ke, mapping of resources at sites and improves its accountability.
Nicanory Ateya, Systems Engineer East Africa, Fortinet shared more insights from an earlier discussion of Healthcare Cybersecurity. He highlighted more on the Digital Acceleration, Consolidation of Security Point Product Vendors and the Convergence of Networking and Security within the Fortinet Security Fabric. This will be achieved through the Fortinet Security Fabric in a secure, simple and intelligent platform which allows Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning to drive better outcomes and user experiences.
Furthermore the forum was open to all the committee members through group discussions to share the insights on the Three Thematic areas affecting Health Information Systems. These discussions revolved around; Adequate and Appropriate Health Infrastructure, Health Information, for Evidence – Based Decision Making, Universal Access to Essential Health Products & Technologies, Data Standardization and compliance of Health Information Systems to achieve Data interoperability among others.
