Members Meeting on 29th July, 2022

Kenya Healthcare Federation hosted the Members’ Meeting at Mövenpick Hotel & Residences. This Meeting is a Private Sector Forum that brings together leading Healthcare Organizations within the KHF Membership, Partners including Ministry of Health Representation, Development Partners, Faith Based Organizations and Non-Governmental Organizations.

In her opening remarks, Dr. Anastasia Nyalita, KHF CEO said that the meeting hosted in partnership with the IFC – International Finance CorporationGlobal Compact Network Kenya (GCNK) and Salient Advisory was with the aim to discuss the various topical areas and strategic aspects across all sub-sectors of Health in the country and beyond its borders.

Kevin Berkane, Investment Professional, IFC – International Finance Corporation made a presentation on the Africa Medical Equipment Facility. He highlighted that it is a program that increases access and availability of medical equipment and associated services in 9 countries in West and East Africa.  “It is a financing solution which allows local partner banks to lend to private Healthcare SMEs and facilitate access to loans and leases in procurement of medical equipment”. He concluded.

Mumbi Maina, Relationship Manager, Health and Hospitality, Corporate Banking also made a presentation on accessing financing for the Health Sector in relation to the AMEF program. She highlighted the objective is to promote access to financing for SMEs in the Healthcare space that would ordinarily struggle to get financing from Banks.

Anne Waita, General Manager, Nairobi Radiotherapy & Cancer Centre, Jennifer Kinyoe, Country Manager, GE Healthcare and Karen Botma, Managing Director, Getinge shared their success stories and highlighted more on how the AMEF program has achieved quality and affordable healthcare in the country and beyond its borders.

Malyse Uwase, Senior Consultant, Salient Advisory made a presentation on Innovations in digitizing distribution of Health Products. She accompanied the key trends from 2022 market intelligence report and an online searchable directory for the public. “We seek to reconstruct systems and approaches that are no longer fit for purpose in today’s global health environment.” She emphasized.

Dr. ONESMUS MWAURA KAMAU, Head of Health Informatics, Ministry of Health, Kenya later gave his remarks in relation to various innovations achieved over the years in digitizing distribution of Health Products.

HARUN MUKIIRI, Participant Engagement Manager, Global Compact Network Kenya (GCNK) made his remarks on Introduction to the United Nations Global Compact during the Members Meeting. He highlighted on the Tenth Principle of the United Nations Global Compact and the progress on the Sustainable Development Goals.

Dr. Kanyenje Gakombe, Chair, Kenya Healthcare Federation gave the welcome remarks as well as welcoming all the members for attending this forum and took the initiative to welcome Dr. Anastasia Nyalita, CEO, Kenya Healthcare Federation to discuss the ongoing advocacy agenda.

Dr. Anastasia Nyalita took the moment and appreciated all the new KHF Members and congratulated them for joining us. She updated the KHF Members on the progress of Resolution Insurance, Policyholders Compensation Fund, Insurance Regulatory Authority and NHIF engagements highlighting the key takeaways and the way forward of each of the engagements. She also congratulated the new oncoming ICT & Mobile Health Committee Leadership, welcoming Peter Kanda, Chief Information Officer, Gertrude’s Children’s Hospital as the new ICT chair and Dr. Jean Kyula, Country Manager, Helium Health as the new ICT vice chair.

During the final sessions of this forum, KHF sought to chart the way forward for 2022 along the 6 Committees highlighting the key issues experienced in each of committees with their Chairs and Vice Chairs representatives; KHF Director and Supply Chain Committee Chair, Vinod Guptan, HRH Committee Chair, Dr. Joyce Sitonik, HR & QS Committee representative, Maureen Muthinzi, ICT & M-Health Committee Vice Chair, Dr. Jean Kyula and PPP Committee chair, Dr. Anne Musuva-Njoroge.

KHF Vice Chairperson, Dr Elizabeth Wala Wala concluded the Members Meeting with a vote of thanks to the partners of the meeting; IFC – International Finance CorporationGlobal Compact Network Kenya (GCNK) and Salient Advisory and all Health Sector players from the Private Sector, Public Sector, Development Partner Groups, Partners and Stakeholders and all KHF Members for attending this Forum.
