Dr. Walter Obita is a distinguished healthcare leader with over 16 years of extensive experience in healthcare management, health systems strengthening, and strategic leadership. Currently serving as the Chief Operating Officer of HealthStore East Africa and Managing Director of Sustainable Healthcare Foundation, Dr. Obita brings a comprehensive and innovative approach to healthcare development.

A medical doctor by training with an MBCh.B from the University of Nairobi and an MBA candidate, Dr. Obita has cultivated a remarkable career spanning multiple critical roles in healthcare. His professional journey includes significant positions such as a medical practitioner at Machakos Level V Hospital, District Medical Officer of Health in Hamisi District, and General Manager at Sagam Hospital in Western Kenya.

Dr. Obita’s professional credentials are further enhanced by advanced training from prestigious institutions, including healthcare management programs at Massachusetts General Hospital and leadership training at the University of Washington. His expertise is recognized through his memberships in the Kenya Medical Association and the Kenya Healthcare Federation’s Healthcare Financing Committee.

As the Country Director for Marie Stopes and a Vice Chair at the Kenya Healthcare Federation, Dr. Obita has been instrumental in bridging public and private sector healthcare initiatives. His strategic approach has been pivotal in advancing universal health coverage, healthcare investments, and creating collaborative environments that drive systemic healthcare improvements.

With a proven track record of founding and managing healthcare institutions, Dr. Obita specializes in health financing, project management, and public-private partnerships.
