A two-day event was held at the Amref International University in Nairobi, Kenya, on the 27th and 28th of February 2023. The event was titled “Improving Maternal and Fetal Outcomes by strengthening Medical Officer, Midwife, Nurse, and Clinical Officer capacity in the use of Point of Care Ultrasound for Obstetric care,” and it aimed to develop a Curriculum and a policy framework to strengthen healthcare workforce capacity in the use of Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS).
On Day 1, the topic of discussion was Curricula Development, Training, and Certification. Faith Muigai from Inteleos gave the Welcome, Introduction, and Agenda. She also presented the Maternal summit Re-cap and Action plan. Joseph Williamson discussed the Terms of Reference: Curricula Development, training, and certification, followed by a group discussion to work on the action plan and presented it. Priscillah Ngunju from Amref International University talked about Roles and Responsibilities, and the meeting cadence for the next steps, while Faith Muigai gave the closing remarks, followed by networking.
On Day 2, the topic of discussion was Policy Development-National Framework. Faith Muigai from Inteleos gave the Agenda and Introductions, followed by Dr. Tim Theuri, C.E.O Kenya Healthcare Federation, who gave the Opening Remarks. Faith Muigai then presented the Maternal Summit Re-Cap and Action Plan, while Dr. Walter Obita, KHF Board of Director discussed the Terms of Reference: National Policy Development. There was a group work session on the action plan, followed by Priscillah Ngunju’s presentation on Roles and Responsibilities, and the meeting cadence for the next steps. Faith Muigai gave the closing remarks, followed by networking.
