Samuel Agutu is Managing Director/CEO and co-founder of Changamka Microhealth Ltd, a developer of innovative mobile-based Health financing solutions; and the Principal Officer of Changamka Microinsurance Ltd, a developer of MicroInsurance solutions for low-income communities in Kenya.
Changamka has developed Smart Card and phone based savings and e-voucher solutions as health-financing mechanisms for pregnant women, realising significant increases in facility based maternity deliveries.
In 2014 Changamka, together with Safaricom and British American Insurance developed and launched “Linda Jamii” (protect the family) a paperless mobile-based health micro insurance product targeting low-income families. The solution allows individuals to save and for the savings to convert to insurance premium once a threshold is achieved.
Changamka has been recognized at several global forums, and was in 2010 the winner of the Kenya MDG 5 award for innovation.
Sam holds an MBA from Jomo Kenyatta University, and has over 35 years experience having worked in Audit (Coopers & Lybrand); Insurance (AIG); Reinsurance (Africa Re); Advertising (Grey) and Broking (Clarkson Notcutt). He is a Certified Public Accountant, a Certified Public Secretary, a Chartered Arbitrator, an Ashoka fellow and Chairman of the Medical Insurance Providers Association of Kenya.
