Dr Bola Tafawa is a Social Epidemiologist with over 13 years of experience designing, managing and evaluating health initiatives that efficiently improve well-being, and help achieve uninterrupted economic prosperity. She has worked in four countries and is currently the General Manager for Health at Kenya-based Equity Group Foundation. She spearheads strategic design and execution for Equity Afia, an initiative that combines approaches on supply, demand and financing to provide affordable, quality and comprehensive care using a clinician-entrepreneurial franchise model. Dr Bola’s areas of expertise include social determinants of health, strengthening health systems, managing efficient health workforces, behavioral change communications, research methods, and program design and evaluation. Previously, Dr Bola worked on global health communication initiatives for McCann Healthcare Worldwide and Dana Farber Cancer Institute. She has also managed research programs for the U.S Government’s National Human Genome Research Institute and conducted evaluation for Friends of the Global Fund Africa.
She is a Director at Kenya Healthcare Federation and also serves on the Board of Directors for the non-profit, Kakenya Center for Excellence. Dr Bola has a Doctorate degree in Social Epidemiology and Health Communications from Harvard School of Public Health, Master’s in Public Health from the University of Michigan and a Bachelor of Science in Bio-behavioral health from the Pennsylvania State University.
